The Tank Center is a permanent military building in Last War: Survival that strengthens Tank-type heroes. It unlocks at Headquarters level 6, and upgrading it raises Tank Hero March Size, HP, Attack, and Defense.
For a Tank-focused account, it is one of the most useful shared combat upgrades because one building improves every eligible Tank hero. It is much less urgent for players whose main squad is built around Aircraft or Missile Vehicle heroes, except when a troop-type center level is needed for Headquarters progression.
What Does the Tank Center Do?
The Tank Center provides permanent bonuses specifically to heroes whose vehicle type is Tank. It does not replace hero levels, skills, stars, gear, Drone development, or research; instead, it adds another layer of shared stats across your Tank roster.
Tank Center Unlock Requirement
The Tank Center becomes available when your Headquarters reaches level 6. If you are still working through early base progression, use the Last War Headquarters upgrade guide to plan the buildings and resources needed for upcoming HQ levels.
Like other permanent buildings, its normal level progression is tied to your Headquarters level. Levels above 30 require the later Age of Oil progression covered further below.
Stats Improved by the Tank Center
- Tank Hero March Size: Raises the March Size stat granted to eligible Tank heroes.
- Tank Hero HP: Adds survivability to Tank heroes.
- Tank Hero Attack: Increases their offensive stat.
- Tank Hero Defense: Improves their defensive stat.
The value compounds when several heroes in your primary squad are Tanks. A Tank-heavy lineup receives much more practical benefit from the same building level than a formation containing only one Tank hero.
Heroes That Receive Tank Center Bonuses
The current Tank Center data lists the following Tank-type heroes as beneficiaries:
This is why your long-term squad plan matters. If Kimberly, Murphy, Marshall, Williams, Stetmann, Mason, or other Tank heroes form the core of your account, Tank Center upgrades have broad value. If you intend to transition to Aircraft or Missile Vehicles, spending heavily beyond progression requirements may be less efficient.
Last War Tank Center Upgrade Costs and Stats: Levels 1–30
Tank Center levels 1–8 use Iron and Food. Coin enters the upgrade cost at level 9. Costs then rise sharply through the higher HQ levels, so it becomes increasingly important to coordinate the building with your Headquarters and main-squad priorities.

Construction time is intentionally not treated as a fixed value here. Builder bonuses, research, alliance help, survivors, VIP effects, and other account modifiers can change the time shown on your own upgrade screen.
Tank Center Levels 31–35 and the Age of Oil
After the Season 2 progression moves into the Age of Oil, the level cap can eventually extend beyond 30. You must progress through the Age of Oil research tree and complete the relevant HQ Expansion research before the higher Headquarters and building levels become available.
Oil is added to the Tank Center cost starting at level 31.

How the Tank Center Fits HQ 31–35 Requirements
The important detail is that the late-game HQ path generally accepts one of the Tank, Aircraft, or Missile Centers. The Tank Center is therefore not uniquely mandatory if another troop type is your primary focus.
- HQ 31: Tech Center level 30, a Tank/Aircraft/Missile Center at level 30, Barracks level 30, and the required HQ Expansion research.
- HQ 32: Tech Center level 31, chosen troop-type center level 31, Barracks level 31, and Wall level 31.
- HQ 33: Tech Center level 32, chosen troop-type center level 32, Barracks level 32, Hospital level 32, and Drill Ground level 32.
- HQ 34: Tech Center level 33, chosen troop-type center level 33, Barracks level 33, Wall level 33, and Alliance Center level 33.
- HQ 35: Tech Center level 34, chosen troop-type center level 34, Barracks level 34, Hospital level 34, and Drill Ground level 34.
For a Tank main, choosing the Tank Center for this requirement is efficient because the prerequisite building also strengthens the squad you use most. An Aircraft or Missile main can instead progress the corresponding center and leave the Tank Center lower until a second Tank formation becomes important.
Best Tank Center Upgrade Priority
Early Game
Early Tank Center upgrades are inexpensive compared with later levels. If your first strong formation contains several Tank heroes, keeping the building developed gives useful shared stats without demanding the enormous resource commitments seen later.
You should still keep Headquarters progression ahead of unnecessary side upgrades. A stronger Tank Center is helpful, but delaying an important HQ upgrade can also delay higher hero caps and access to later building levels.
Mid Game
As costs reach the millions and eventually hundreds of millions, upgrade decisions should become more selective. Tank mains should normally keep the Tank Center relevant because the bonuses apply to multiple heroes at once. Aircraft and Missile mains can often stop at whatever level is required for their actual progression path.
This is also the point where upgrading every military building equally becomes increasingly expensive. Specialization is generally more resource-efficient than trying to maintain identical Tank, Aircraft, and Missile Center levels without a reason.
Late Game and Age of Oil
Levels 31–35 are different because Oil joins Iron, Food, and Coin as a requirement. At this stage, compare the next Tank Center level against your HQ Expansion research, Tech Center, Barracks, other mandatory HQ buildings, troop development, and combat research.
If Tanks remain your first squad, those bonuses are still valuable. If you have transitioned your strongest heroes to Aircraft or Missile Vehicles, however, forcing the Tank Center to level 35 merely for symmetry is difficult to justify unless it is supporting a secondary squad you actively use.
F2P and Low-Spender Priority
F2P and low-spending players benefit most from committing resources to a clear primary troop type. If Tanks are your main squad, concentrate the shared military-building investment there instead of spreading resources evenly across all three centers.
Higher spenders have more flexibility to build secondary formations sooner, but the same principle still applies: a building upgrade is most efficient when the heroes benefiting from it are actually used in important combat.
Tank Center and Tank Squad Development
The Tank Center is only one part of a strong Tank formation. Hero investment still determines how effectively those shared building stats turn into real combat performance.
Front-row defenders such as Murphy and Williams need enough durability to keep the back row alive, while damage dealers such as Kimberly and Stetmann need offensive investment to convert extra Attack into useful damage. Marshall contributes through his support role rather than functioning like a pure damage dealer.
Hero levels, stars, skills, gear, Exclusive Weapons where available, Drone systems, military research, and troop attributes all remain important. The Last War troop stats guide covers the broader attributes that also influence formation performance.
Tank Center vs Aircraft and Missile Centers
The best center to prioritize is the one matching the majority of heroes in your most important squad.
- Tank main: Tank Center should normally receive the highest troop-center priority.
- Aircraft main: Prioritize the Aircraft Center and keep Tank Center upgrades tied to HQ requirements or secondary-squad needs.
- Missile main: Apply the same principle to the Missile Center.
- Developed multi-squad account: Raising multiple centers becomes more reasonable once your second and third formations are strong enough to justify the resources.
Do not base the decision only on total account power. Improving the center connected to heroes you actually deploy is generally more useful than increasing a less-used building simply because the upgrade is available.
Resource and Construction Tips
- Plan one or two levels ahead: Check the next Tank Center cost before committing large quantities of Iron, Food, or Coin elsewhere.
- Maintain resource production: Keep your Iron Mine, Farmland, and Gold Mine developed as part of your wider economy rather than relying on one resource source.
- Use alliance help: Request assistance after starting long upgrades. The Alliance Support Hub affects how much support your account can receive.
- Improve construction efficiency: Relevant research and account bonuses can reduce the practical time required for large upgrades. Review the Tech Center guide when planning long-term research.
- Coordinate upgrades with events: If a construction or power-focused event rewards progress you already intended to make, starting a large Tank Center upgrade at the right time can improve the return on resources and speedups. Check the Last War Event Hub when planning major builds.
- Save Oil for a defined target: From level 31 onward, calculate your next HQ and research requirements before committing Oil to optional upgrades.
Players who would rather begin from a more developed account can also browse Last War accounts for sale as an optional alternative to building every progression system from the early game.
Common Tank Center Upgrade Mistakes
- Upgrading all three troop centers equally: This consumes large amounts of resources without necessarily improving the squad you use most.
- Ignoring future HQ prerequisites: A troop center may become part of your next Headquarters requirement, so check the progression path before spending heavily elsewhere.
- Spending Oil without an HQ plan: Levels 31–35 compete with other Age of Oil requirements for the same late-game resource.
- Expecting the building to replace hero investment: Tank Center stats cannot compensate for neglected hero levels, skills, stars, gear, Drone development, or research.
- Following old upgrade tables: Incorrectly shifted costs or stat columns can lead to poor resource planning. Confirm expensive upgrades against the current in-game screen.
- Prioritizing displayed power over squad value: The best upgrade is not always the one that adds power fastest; prioritize improvements that help your active formation or unlock the next progression step.
FAQs
When does the Tank Center unlock in Last War?
The Tank Center becomes available at Headquarters level 6.
What stats does the Tank Center increase?
It increases Tank Hero March Size, HP, Attack, and Defense for eligible Tank-type heroes.
Which heroes benefit from the Tank Center?
Current Tank Center data lists Kimberly, Marshall, Mason, Murphy, Stetmann, Williams, Monica, Richard, Scarlett, Violet, Farhad, Loki, and Gump.
When do Coin and Oil become required for Tank Center upgrades?
Coin first appears in the Tank Center upgrade cost at level 9. Oil is required for levels 31–35 after the relevant Age of Oil and HQ Expansion progression has been unlocked.
Do I need the Tank Center to reach HQ 31–35?
You need an appropriately leveled troop-type center as part of the HQ 31–35 prerequisite chain, but it can be the Tank, Aircraft, or Missile Center. Tank mains can therefore use the Tank Center, while players focused on another troop type can progress the matching building instead.
Should I max the Tank Center if Tanks are not my main squad?
Usually not as a first priority. Upgrade it when it is needed for progression or when your Tank secondary squad is developed enough to justify the cost. Otherwise, direct scarce resources toward the center supporting your primary formation.
Conclusion
The Tank Center is one of the most efficient permanent building investments for a Tank-focused account because every level strengthens multiple Tank heroes through March Size, HP, Attack, and Defense bonuses. The best approach is to keep it aligned with your real squad plan and Headquarters requirements rather than upgrading every troop-type center equally.
Once you reach the Age of Oil, plan levels 31–35 carefully because Oil also competes with research and other late-game building requirements. For more building guides, squad strategies, and progression advice, explore the latest Last War Survival guides.
