Last War Exclusive Weapons shard costs and upgrade priority

Last War Exclusive Weapons are a separate hero progression system that unlocks powerful skill upgrades, additional hero attributes, higher skill levels, and major milestone bonuses. They are not normal equipment from the Gear Factory.

The most important planning numbers are 50 named shards to unlock, 1,130 total shards to reach Level 20, and 2,880 total shards to reach Level 30. For most players, Level 20 is the first major long-term target because it unlocks the troop-type Specialist bonus while avoiding the extremely expensive Level 20–30 push.

An Exclusive Weapon has a two-part unlock gate: the hero must already be 5 stars, and you need 50 hero-specific named Exclusive Weapon Shards. Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards cannot activate a locked weapon but can upgrade it afterward. For most accounts, choose one important weapon from your primary squad, push it to Level 20, and only then begin spreading Universal shards across additional weapons.

What Are Exclusive Weapons in Last War?

Exclusive Weapons are advanced upgrades available to selected Last War: Survival heroes.

Unlocking and leveling an Exclusive Weapon can provide:

  • Higher hero Attack, Defense, and HP
  • Improved versions of existing skills
  • Additional skill levels beyond the normal cap
  • Major weapon-specific effects at key milestone levels
  • Troop-type bonuses at Level 20
  • Cosmetic changes to the hero’s vehicle and avatar at higher progression

Exclusive Weapons can reach Level 30. Along the way, weapon progression can increase the maximum levels available to the hero’s normal skills, so the system works together with Skill Medals rather than replacing normal hero development.

Exclusive Weapons Are Not Normal Gear

Do not confuse an Exclusive Weapon with a Cannon, Railgun, Chip, Armor, or Radar.

Those normal equipment pieces belong to the Last War Gear Factory and Hero Gear system. Exclusive Weapons instead sit on the individual hero’s progression screen and use Exclusive Weapon Shards.

The two systems can strengthen the same hero, but their materials, levels, unlock conditions, and upgrade priorities are separate.

How to Unlock an Exclusive Weapon

Every Exclusive Weapon has two requirements.

Requirement What You Need
Hero Tier 5 stars
Weapon Activation 50 named Exclusive Weapon Shards for that hero

Having 50 weapon shards is not enough when the hero is still below five stars. The shards can remain in your inventory, but the weapon cannot be activated until the hero reaches the required tier.

Can Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards Unlock a Weapon?

No. Initial activation requires the hero’s specific named weapon shards.

For example, unlocking DVA’s weapon requires DVA Exclusive Weapon Shards. Once the weapon is active, further levels can use either named shards or Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards.

Planning rule: Do not spend heavily collecting named weapon shards for a hero you have no realistic plan to take to five stars. You can bank them in advance, but the weapon remains locked until both requirements are satisfied.

Exclusive Weapon Shard Cost Table

The full progression below uses the current verified shard brackets. The cumulative column starts from a completely locked weapon and includes the initial 50 named shards.

Verified August 26, 2026: The correct cost brackets begin at Levels 2, 6, 11, 16, 21, and 26. Some older community tables shift those brackets one level early, which incorrectly pushes the total above 2,880. Always recheck the live weapon screen after a major balance update.
Weapon Level Shards for This Level Cumulative From Locked Note
1 50 named 50 Weapon activation
2 20 70
3 20 90

Shard Cost by Major Segment

Progression Additional Shards Cumulative From Locked
Unlock 50 named 50
Level 1 → 10 280 330
Level 10 → 20 800 1,130
Level 20 → 30 1,750 2,880

The cost curve is heavily back-loaded. Taking a weapon from Level 20 to 30 costs 1,750 shards by itself, considerably more than the entire locked-to-Level-20 progression.

Level 10, 20 and 30 Exclusive Weapon Breakpoints

Weapon Levels 1, 10, 20, and 30 are the major strategic milestones.

Level Cumulative Shards Why It Matters
1 50 Activates the Exclusive Weapon and its first weapon-specific mechanic.
10 330 Unlocks or upgrades another major weapon skill effect.
20 1,130 Typically unlocks the 7.5% Specialist boost to Attack, Defense, and HP for the hero’s troop type.
30 2,880 Unlocks the final major weapon effect and opens post-Level-30 enhancement.

Why Level 20 Is the Main Target

Level 20 offers the most important general-purpose stopping point for many accounts.

The Specialist effect typically boosts Attack, Defense, and HP for heroes matching the weapon owner’s troop type. That means one developed Exclusive Weapon can strengthen more than the individual hero holding it.

Additionally, Season 6 Hero Awakening makes Level 20 even more important for eligible heroes because their Exclusive Weapon must already be Level 20 before Awakening becomes available.

Are Intermediate Levels Worthless?

No. Intermediate weapon levels still provide attributes and can contribute additional hero skill levels.

However, Levels 10, 20, and 30 create the biggest planning breakpoints. Therefore, saving enough shards to actually cross a milestone is usually more useful than spreading the same stockpile across several weapons that all stop between important levels.

Which Exclusive Weapon Should You Upgrade First?

This hub deliberately does not rank individual Exclusive Weapons. Per-hero rankings are better handled in dedicated hero guides or a future weapon tier-list page.

Instead, use this priority framework:

  1. Choose your primary troop type: Tank, Aircraft, or Missile Vehicle.
  2. Choose a hero you realistically expect to keep in that primary squad.
  3. Activate the weapon with its 50 named shards.
  4. Push that weapon toward Level 20 before spreading Universal shards across several side projects.
  5. After Level 20, evaluate whether another main-squad weapon reaching 20 gives more value than pushing the first from 20 to 30.
One-weapon rule: A Level 20 weapon is usually more strategically useful than three weapons stalled at random intermediate levels. Concentrate Universal shards around a defined breakpoint rather than distributing them simply because several heroes have weapons available.

Season 6 Awakening Changes the Decision

If your server has reached Season 6 and you plan to Awaken an eligible hero, finishing that hero’s Exclusive Weapon to Level 20 can become the immediate priority.

For example, players building Kimberly or DVA should consider their Awakening plans before diverting Universal Weapon Shards to secondary heroes.

How to Get Exclusive Weapon Shards: Free and Paid

Exclusive Weapon Battle Pass

When a new Exclusive Weapon originally releases, it comes with a limited Battle Pass.

The standard documented pass provides 70 named Exclusive Weapon Shards.

That amount is intentionally important:

50 shards to unlock + 20 shards for Level 2 = 70 shards

Current store references place the pass around the US$20 / 2,000 Gold Brick tier, although regional pricing can differ.

Last War Exclusive Weapon Battle Pass

Black Market: Main F2P Unlock Route

The Black Market that follows a season can offer Exclusive Weapon Shard Choice Chests.

These chests let you select named shards for eligible weapons rather than forcing a random hero. If you prioritize the weapon boxes, collecting 150 named shards is enough to activate three separate weapons at 50 shards each.

For F2P players, this makes the Black Market one of the most important sources of weapon unlocks.

Do Not Automatically Unlock Every Weapon

Choice Chests are flexible. Use that flexibility.

If you do not use a hero and do not plan to develop its troop type, spending 50 named shards just to fill the weapon collection can be lower value than concentrating the same Black Market resources around your main formation.

Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards

Universal shards become more common as account and seasonal progression advances. They can appear through systems such as Duel VS rewards and later events.

Because Universal shards can upgrade any already-activated weapon, preserve them for defined Level 10, 20, or 30 targets instead of spending every shard immediately.

Last War Exclusive Weapon Seasonal Release Schedule

Seasons 1 through 5 released three Exclusive Weapons per season, normally during Weeks 1, 3, and 6.

However, the troop-type ordering does not remain Tank → Aircraft → Missile every season. Later seasons changed which class appeared in each week.

Season Week 1 Week 3 Week 6
Season 1 Kimberly — Tank DVA — Aircraft Tesla — Missile
Season 2 Murphy — Tank Carlie — Aircraft Swift — Missile
Season 3 Marshall — Tank Schuyler — Aircraft McGregor — Missile
Season 4 Lucius — Aircraft Adam — Missile Williams — Tank
Season 5 Fiona — Missile Stetmann — Tank Morrison — Aircraft
Season 6 No new Exclusive Weapons. Hero Awakening becomes the new seasonal hero-progression system.

Season 6 therefore marks an important change to the old release rule. Existing weapons remain relevant, but players should not assume that every future season automatically adds another three.

What Happens After Exclusive Weapon Level 30?

Reaching Level 30 completes the normal weapon progression and unlocks additional attribute enhancement tracks.

Current documented over-cap progression contains three tracks:

  • Attack
  • HP
  • Defense

Each track contains 50 levels and costs 10 Exclusive Weapon Shards per level.

Over-Cap Track Levels Shard Cost per Level Unlock Rule
Attack 50 10 Available first
HP 50 10 Unlocks after Attack reaches Level 10
Defense 50 10 Unlocks after HP reaches Level 10

Fully leveling all three tracks requires another:

150 levels × 10 shards = 1,500 shards

That brings the theoretical full progression from a locked weapon through Level 30 and all three over-cap tracks to:

2,880 + 1,500 = 4,380 shards

For F2P and low-spending accounts, over-cap progression is normally a late priority. Taking another important main-squad weapon toward Level 20 or preparing for a future Awakening can provide more value than spending Universal shards on small post-Level-30 attributes.

Comparing developed progression: Players reviewing Last War accounts for sale should check the Exclusive Weapon levels on the actual main squad alongside hero stars, Awakening, gear, troop type, research, HQ level, and Drone progression. Two accounts with similar total Power can have very different weapon breakpoints.

When Should You Spend Exclusive Weapon Shards?

If the upgrade is not urgent, Thursday is usually the best time to spend saved Exclusive Weapon Shards.

Thursday is Train Heroes in the current Alliance Duel schedule, and Exclusive Weapon progression contributes to that day’s scoring.

Therefore, a practical weekly strategy is:

  1. Collect named and Universal Weapon Shards throughout the week.
  2. Decide the exact weapon breakpoint you intend to reach.
  3. Keep the shards unspent when no urgent battle requires the upgrade.
  4. Use them after Thursday’s Train Heroes scoring period begins.
  5. Stop once the planned milestone or required VS score is reached.

For the complete daily scoring schedule, use the Last War Alliance Duel Guide.

When Should You Ignore Hero Day Timing?

Do not delay a critical progression breakpoint just for event points when you need it immediately.

For example, completing Level 20 before an important battle or before activating an eligible Season 6 Awakening may be worth more than the additional Thursday score.

F2P Exclusive Weapon Strategy

F2P progression is mainly about concentration.

A practical route is:

  1. Commit to one primary troop type.
  2. Develop the corresponding heroes to five stars.
  3. Prioritize Black Market Choice Boxes for important named shards.
  4. Activate weapons that belong to heroes you actually use.
  5. Put most Universal Weapon Shards toward one Level 20 target.
  6. Move to the next main-squad Level 20 before aggressively chasing Level 30.
  7. Delay post-Level-30 enhancement until the main formation is substantially developed.

This creates fewer weapon icons in the short term but usually creates a stronger actual squad.

Low-Spender and Spender Strategy

Low spenders can use the weapon Battle Pass to accelerate an important main-squad hero because the 70 named shards immediately cover activation and Level 2.

However, buying every seasonal weapon pass can quickly turn a focused progression plan into three partially developed squads.

Prioritize Battle Passes when:

  • The hero belongs to your primary formation.
  • You intend to keep the hero long enough to justify the weapon.
  • The early unlock improves a meaningful seasonal battle target.
  • You already have or can realistically reach five stars.

Higher spenders can push several weapons toward Level 20 or 30 faster, but even they benefit from milestone-based allocation rather than random shard spending.

Common Exclusive Weapon Mistakes

Using the Wrong Shard Cost Table

The correct brackets are Levels 2–5, 6–10, 11–15, 16–20, 21–25, and 26–30. Tables that begin the next price bracket at Level 5, 10, 15, 20, or 25 overstate the total.

Expecting Universal Shards to Unlock a Weapon

The initial 50 shards must be hero-specific. Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards work only after activation.

Ignoring the Five-Star Requirement

Named weapon shards can be collected in advance, but the weapon remains unavailable until the hero reaches five stars.

Spreading Universal Shards Across Too Many Weapons

Three unfinished weapons can delay the Level 20 Specialist effect on the hero that actually matters to your main squad.

Pushing Level 30 Before Building the Rest of the Squad

The Level 20–30 segment alone costs 1,750 shards. Compare that investment with taking another important main-squad weapon from locked to Level 20 for 1,130.

Spending Weapon Shards Before Thursday

When the upgrade is not urgent, saving it for Train Heroes can produce Alliance Duel points from progression you intended to complete anyway.

Spending on Over-Cap Tracks Too Early

Post-Level-30 attributes are expensive in aggregate. Main-squad weapon breakpoints and future Awakening requirements should normally be secured first.

Confusing Exclusive Weapons With Gear

Exclusive Weapons use their own shards and hero progression screen. Cannons, Railguns, Chips, Armor, and Radar belong to normal Gear progression.

FAQ

How many shards does it take to unlock an Exclusive Weapon in Last War?

You need 50 named Exclusive Weapon Shards for the specific hero, and that hero must already be five stars.

How many Exclusive Weapon Shards do I need for Level 20?

From a completely locked weapon, Level 20 requires 1,130 total shards: 50 named shards for activation plus 1,080 additional named or Universal shards for the upgrades.

How many Exclusive Weapon Shards do I need for Level 30?

Reaching Level 30 from locked requires 2,880 total shards. The Level 20–30 segment alone costs 1,750.

Can Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards unlock a weapon?

No. Initial activation requires 50 hero-specific named shards. Universal Exclusive Weapon Shards become usable only after the weapon is unlocked.

Which Exclusive Weapon should I upgrade first?

Start with an important long-term hero from your primary troop type and aim for Level 20 before spreading Universal shards across several secondary weapons. Season 6 Awakening requirements can make an eligible hero’s Level 20 weapon an even higher priority.

Are Last War Exclusive Weapons the same as hero gear?

No. Exclusive Weapons are hero-specific progression unlocked with weapon shards. Normal Gear includes Cannons, Railguns, Chips, Armor, and Radar and is managed through the Gear system.

Conclusion

Last War Exclusive Weapons reward milestone planning far more than random shard spending. The verified progression requires 50 named shards to activate, 330 total shards for Level 10, 1,130 for Level 20, and 2,880 for Level 30.

For most players, Level 20 is the key target because it delivers the troop-type Specialist bonus and now supports important Season 6 Awakening requirements. Concentrate Universal shards around one useful main-squad weapon, use Black Market Choice Boxes carefully, and time non-urgent upgrades with Thursday’s Train Heroes scoring.
