Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Guide

Winter Siege is an alliance PvP event in Whiteout Survival built around defending and attacking connected Strongholds. Instead of simply rewarding the alliance with the strongest individual players, the mode revolves around Garrison Squads, Stars, Hearts, Morale, Wardens, limited attack attempts, and route control.

The basic objective is straightforward: protect your own Stronghold Stars while removing Stars from the enemy. Doing that efficiently requires preparation before battle day. Alliances must decide where their strongest garrisons belong, appoint Wardens, scout enemy defenses, identify important routes, and coordinate rallies instead of allowing members to attack independently.

Winter Siege is decided by remaining Stronghold Stars. Preparation, route planning, Heart management, and disciplined use of limited attacks matter just as much as raw combat power.

Winter Siege Participation Requirements

Winter Siege is not automatically available to every alliance or Chief. To participate:

  • Your alliance must rank among the Top 20 alliances by Power in the State.
  • Your Chief must have at least a Level 25 Furnace.

Eligible alliances are matched against opponents of similar alliance power. Winter Siege was initially introduced to later-generation states before expanding gradually, so availability can still depend on your State and event rollout. Check the in-game event panel if Winter Siege has not yet appeared on your server.

How Do You Win Winter Siege?

Victory is determined after the Battle Phase by comparing the number of Stronghold Stars remaining for each alliance.

  1. The alliance with more remaining Stars wins.
  2. If Stars are tied, the alliance with higher total Preparation-end garrison combat power wins.
  3. If both are still tied, the alliance that reached the current Star count later wins.

This is why simply winning individual fights is not enough. Your alliance should focus on battles that meaningfully threaten enemy Stars while protecting Strongholds carrying important defensive value.

Preview Phase

Use the Preview Phase to confirm that your alliance and participating Chiefs meet the requirements. Leadership should also begin assigning roles, identifying likely rally leaders, discussing time-zone coverage, and deciding which Strongholds will receive priority during Preparation.

Matchmaking Phase

During the matchmaking window, the event searches for an opposing alliance using alliance strength as part of the matching process. Once the matchup is known, leadership can start preparing a more specific plan.

Preparation Phase

Preparation is one of the most important parts of Winter Siege. Every participating Chief can send up to two Garrison Squads to friendly Strongholds.

When Preparation finishes, selected defensive squads become locked. Their placement cannot simply be rearranged on battle day, so poor garrison decisions can affect the entire match.

R4 and R5 members must also appoint Wardens during this phase.

Do not spread strong garrisons randomly across the map. Identify strategically important Strongholds first, then place your best defenders where losing their Stars or route position would hurt most.

Scouting Phase

Friday is dedicated to gathering information. Alliances can inspect enemy garrison setups, Stronghold Star values, and accessible routes.

Leadership should use Scouting to answer three questions before Saturday:

  • Which enemy Strongholds should be attacked first?
  • Which prerequisite Strongholds must fall to open later routes?
  • Where has the opponent concentrated its strongest defenders?

Battle Phase

Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Stronghold

Saturday is the actual combat phase. Players can rally enemy Strongholds, reduce defender Hearts, open routes, and protect their own Star total.

Attack attempts are limited, which makes target selection important. Throwing attacks into a low-value objective can leave your alliance short of attempts when a critical Stronghold becomes vulnerable later.

Results Phase

Sunday finalizes the result, rankings, and event rewards. Reward details may vary with the current event version or progression, so review the live Winter Siege reward interface for the exact items available on your State.

Winter Siege Core Mechanics Explained

Garrison Squads

Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Garrison

Garrison Squads are defensive marches assigned to friendly Strongholds during Preparation. Each Chief can submit two squads.

Once Preparation ends, the selected defending squads become locked. This makes Wednesday and Thursday strategic days rather than simple registration periods.

Hearts

Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Heart

Hearts represent how many defensive failures a Garrison Squad can withstand. Each failed defense removes one Heart. Once that squad reaches zero Hearts, it is removed from the Stronghold.

The important consequence is that the Stronghold then loses all Stars contributed by that squad at once. A defender carrying valuable Stars can therefore become a major target once its Hearts begin running low.

Stars

Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Stars

Stars are effectively the event’s victory score. Strongholds gain Stars from their garrisoned squads, and the alliance with more remaining Stronghold Stars at the end wins.

This creates an important distinction between winning fights and winning the event. Spending several attacks to remove a low-value defender may contribute less than breaking a weakened squad whose elimination causes a large Star loss.

Morale

Whiteout Survival Winter Siege Morale

Morale reduces the effectiveness of defenders who repeatedly win battles. The attacking side can therefore gradually wear down a difficult garrison instead of facing exactly the same defensive strength every attempt.

Under the rules updated on August 17, 2026:

  • A successful defense reduces Morale by 10% while Morale is above 80%.
  • At 80% Morale or below, each successful defense reduces it by 5%.
  • Morale cannot drop below 60%.

Squad combat stats are affected by the current Morale value. This gives coordinated alliances a way to weaken powerful defenders through repeated pressure.

Warden

Wardens are special defensive assignments selected by R4 or R5 during Preparation. Warden squads begin with additional defensive value through more Hearts and Stars than ordinary garrison squads.

Following the August 17 rules update, a Warden squad begins with five Hearts.

Because a Warden is more difficult to remove and contributes strongly to a defensive position, leadership should place Wardens deliberately rather than simply choosing a powerful member without considering the map.

Attack Attempts

Every squad can make up to 10 attacks during the Battle Phase.

  • Each squad begins with 3 attack attempts.
  • One additional attempt recovers every 2 hours.
  • Up to 7 additional attempts can be recovered.
  • Recovered attempts can be saved and used later.

Saving attacks can be valuable when your alliance expects an important route or enemy Stronghold to become vulnerable later in the battle.

Stronghold Routes

Winter Siege Strongholds are connected through routes. Some targets cannot be attacked until the prerequisite adjacent Stronghold has been defeated.

This makes map progression important. An apparently attractive Stronghold may be irrelevant early in the fight if the path leading to it remains locked.

How to Play the Battle Phase

Step 1: Open Important Routes

Your first attacks should support the alliance’s route plan. Breaking the correct prerequisite Stronghold can unlock access to more valuable targets and force the opponent to respond.

Step 2: Track Enemy Hearts

Do not judge a target only by raw power. A dangerous garrison sitting on its final Heart can represent a much more valuable opportunity than a fresh defender elsewhere.

Calling out low-Heart defenders allows rally leaders to concentrate attacks where they can actually remove Stars.

Step 3: Use Morale to Break Tough Defenders

Repeated successful defenses reduce garrison Morale. An alliance that cannot defeat an elite defender immediately may still wear that squad down over multiple attacks.

This is particularly useful when several members can coordinate their attacks instead of repeatedly sending poorly timed individual marches.

Step 4: Manage Your Attack Economy

Ten attacks per squad sounds generous until members begin wasting attempts on targets that do not advance the map or threaten meaningful Stars.

Leadership should communicate when members should:

  • attack immediately;
  • save attempts;
  • join rallies;
  • pressure a weakened garrison;
  • switch to a newly opened route.

Step 5: Protect the Star Lead

When your alliance gains a Star advantage, the objective can shift from aggressive expansion to protecting important defensive positions. There is little reason to risk the match through unnecessary attacks if maintaining current Stronghold Stars already places your alliance ahead.

Three Practical Winter Siege Strategies

Garrison-Focused Strategy

A defensive plan concentrates strong garrisons on important Strongholds and tries to force the opponent to consume attacks breaking through them.

This approach works best when your alliance can maintain reliable participation and has a clear understanding of which nodes deserve the strongest protection.

Rally Assault Strategy

An aggressive alliance can concentrate coordinated rallies on selected Strongholds instead of spreading attacks across the map.

The objective is to break key garrisons quickly, remove their Hearts, and open routes before the opponent can stabilize the defense.

Balanced Control Strategy

A balanced plan combines strong defenses on priority Strongholds with selective attacks when the enemy exposes a weakness. This avoids exhausting attack attempts simply for the sake of constant action.

Whatever strategy your alliance chooses, consistency matters. Changing plans repeatedly during the battle without a clear leadership call can waste both attacks and rally opportunities.

Winter Siege Buffs and Troop Losses

Troops defeated during Winter Siege are restored automatically after the event, so the event does not create permanent soldier losses in the same way as ordinary combat.

Several bonuses do not apply during Winter Siege, including:

Pet skills are active by default, although active skill effects do not stack.

Do not build your Winter Siege plan around bonuses that the event disables. Compare squads using the stats and effects that actually apply inside Winter Siege before deciding your garrison and rally priorities.

Important Alliance and Transfer Rules

Leaving your alliance at the wrong time can affect your Winter Siege participation.

  • If you leave during Preparation, your deployed squads are removed.
  • If you leave during Scouting or Battle, the deployed squads remain.

State Transfer after registration can also affect participation, squads, and reward eligibility depending on the phase when the transfer occurs. Players planning a transfer during Winter Siege should review the current in-game rules before moving.

Common Winter Siege Mistakes

  • Skipping Preparation: garrisons lock before battle, so Saturday cannot fix every setup mistake.
  • Forgetting the Warden: R4/R5 must handle this during Preparation.
  • Ignoring routes: attacks cannot bypass Strongholds that are still locked behind prerequisites.
  • Wasting attempts early: save enough attacks for important targets that become available later.
  • Ignoring Hearts: removing a low-Heart squad can produce a more meaningful Star swing than attacking a fresh defender.
  • Fighting without rally coordination: random attacks make it harder to exploit Morale and finish weakened garrisons.
  • Overextending while ahead: once you have a Star advantage, defending it may be more valuable than chasing unnecessary fights.

Winter Siege Tips for R4 and R5

Alliance leadership has an unusually important role in Winter Siege. Before Preparation ends, R4 and R5 should establish a simple structure that ordinary members can follow.

  1. Identify the Strongholds that deserve the best garrisons.
  2. Assign Wardens before squads lock.
  3. Choose primary and backup rally leaders.
  4. Use Scouting to map the first route targets.
  5. Publish an attack order before the Battle Phase.
  6. Track low-Heart enemy squads during battle.
  7. Tell members when to save or spend attack attempts.
  8. Shift toward defense if protecting the Star lead becomes the safest objective.

A clear plan does not need to be complicated. A few well-defined targets and roles are generally more useful than dozens of instructions members cannot follow in real time.

FAQs

How many Garrison Squads can each player deploy?

Each Chief can deploy up to two Garrison Squads during Preparation.

Can I change my garrison after Preparation?

No. Selected garrisons become locked when Preparation ends.

How many attack attempts does each squad receive?

Each squad can make 10 attacks in total: three available initially and up to seven additional attempts restored at a rate of one every two hours.

What happens when a garrison reaches zero Hearts?

The squad is removed from defense, and the Stronghold loses all Stars contributed by that squad.

What is the minimum Morale in Winter Siege?

Under the rules updated on August 17, 2026, defensive Morale cannot fall below 60%.

Do troops permanently die in Winter Siege?

No. Soldiers lost during Winter Siege are restored after the event.

Why can’t I attack a particular Stronghold?

Some Strongholds are locked behind connected prerequisite nodes. Your alliance must capture the required adjacent Stronghold before the route opens.

How is a tied Winter Siege match decided?

If both alliances finish with the same number of Stars, total Preparation-end garrison combat power is compared. If that is also tied, the side that reached the final Star count later wins.

Should You Build an Account Specifically for Winter Siege?

Winter Siege rewards developed heroes and strong squads, but coordination remains fundamental because every alliance has limited attacks and fixed routes to manage. If you prefer starting with a more established profile rather than developing one from the beginning, you can also browse available Whiteout Survival accounts. This is separate from Winter Siege itself, so choose whichever progression approach fits how you want to play.

Conclusion

The key to the Whiteout Survival Winter Siege event is understanding that Stars decide the match, while Hearts, Morale, Wardens, routes, and attack attempts determine how those Stars are won or lost. Strong alliances prepare their garrisons before they lock, scout routes on Friday, concentrate attacks on meaningful targets, and avoid wasting attempts simply to generate battles.

Rules may continue to change as Winter Siege rolls out across more States, so check the current event interface for server-specific availability and updated mechanics. For more alliance events, hero advice, and progression strategies, visit our additional Whiteout Survival guides.
