Rise of Kingdoms Mightiest Governor Event Guide: All MGE Stages

by | Sep 2, 2026

ROK Mightiest Governor event stages

The Rise of Kingdoms Mightiest Governor event, usually shortened to MGE, rewards governors for troop training, barbarian defeats, gathering, power growth, and PvP combat. The strongest strategy is to choose your target rank before the event, save the correct resources for each scoring period, and stop spending when the next reward is no longer worth the cost.

Before pushing the leaderboard, also find out whether your kingdom runs an open MGE or manages the rankings through kingdom-imposed score caps. Ignoring a fixed MGE assignment can be much more damaging than missing a few Legendary Commander Sculptures.

Set three numbers before MGE starts: the score you want, the maximum resources and speedups you are willing to spend, and the score cap imposed by your kingdom if one exists. Winning efficiently is more valuable than reaching a slightly higher rank after exhausting months of KvK preparation.

Mightiest Governor Stages and Current Format

Rise of Kingdoms Mightiest Governor event phases

MGE is traditionally described as having five core phases: Training Troops, Defeating Barbarians, Gathering Resources, Increasing Power, and Eliminating Enemies. In current community references, the final daily scoring period is also commonly separated as Final Sprint, creating six practical scoring windows for planning.

Scoring Period Main Activity Main Resource Preparation
Training Troops Train or upgrade troops Training speedups and resources Preload queues and stack training bonuses
Defeating Barbarians Defeat eligible barbarians Action Points Use Peacekeeping commanders and consecutive attacks
Gathering Resources Bring gathered resources into your city Gathering marches and time Preload marches before the stage starts
Increasing Power Gain building, technology, or troop power Resources and speedups Prepare useful long upgrades
Eliminating Enemies Severely wound or kill eligible enemy troops Troops, healing resources, and speedups Follow kingdom rules and use approved combat
Final Sprint Multiple earlier activities at reduced scoring rates Remaining stockpile Calculate the leaderboard gap before spending

If you encounter a Rise of Kingdoms question asking how many phases MGE has, the traditional answer remains five. Final Sprint is useful to treat as a separate daily scoring period for strategy, but the game has historically grouped the event around five main categories.

How MGE Points Work

Each scoring period rewards specific actions. Timing matters because an activity that produces a large score on its dedicated day may award fewer points during Final Sprint or no relevant MGE points outside its scoring window.

Standard Training Points

Troop Tier Standard MGE Points per Unit
Tier 1 5
Tier 2 10
Tier 3 20
Tier 4 40
Tier 5 100

When upgrading troops instead of training them from scratch, you normally receive the difference between the two troop-tier scores. For example, upgrading one T4 unit to T5 corresponds to the difference between the T4 and T5 values rather than receiving the complete T5 score as if the troop were newly trained.

Standard Gathering Points

Resource Gathered Standard MGE Points
100 Food 1
100 Wood 1
100 Stone 2
100 Gold 5
1 Gem 150

This corrects a common oversimplification: Gold is the highest-scoring normal resource, but Gems give far more points per unit gathered. Gem deposits are scarce and require more active management, so Gold can still be the easier resource for sustained gathering points.

Power and Enemy-Elimination Points

The standard Power Upgrade phase awards 2 MGE points for each point of eligible building, technology, or troop power gained.

Enemy Elimination normally scales by troop tier: T1 units are worth the least, while T5 units give the highest score. Because combat can also consume resources and healing speedups, point efficiency should never be judged from the MGE score alone.

Point tables can be adjusted in future updates, so check the live event information before committing a major stockpile.

Open MGE vs. Fixed MGE

“Fixed MGE” is a community and kingdom-management system rather than a separate built-in game mode. Kingdom leadership may decide to control the leaderboard so valuable commander sculptures go to governors filling specific rally, garrison, or field roles.

Open MGE

In an open event, governors compete for leaderboard positions without preassigned rankings, although normal alliance and kingdom conduct rules still apply.

Open does not mean anything goes. Attacking allied farms or gatherers without permission can still trigger penalties or retaliation.

Fixed MGE

A fixed MGE may involve:

  • Assigned leaderboard positions
  • Maximum individual scores
  • Minimum or target scores
  • Approved participants
  • Registration forms
  • Specific commander priorities
  • Rules for Enemy Elimination
  • Penalties for exceeding an assigned cap
Check kingdom mail, alliance announcements, leadership messages, and any registration sheet before pushing points. If your kingdom gives you a hard cap, stay below it with room for accidental points from normal training, gathering returns, or upgrades.

Stage 1: Training Troops

Mightiest Governor Training Troops stage

Training is usually one of the easiest stages for prepared players to generate a predictable score. It is also one of the fastest ways to destroy a speedup reserve if you enter without a target.

Preload a Training Queue

Start a large training queue before the stage and calculate it so the troops finish after Training Troops begins. There is no universal rule such as activating a Troop Reserve exactly seven days before MGE because your timer depends on training speed, troop tier, building level, reserves, and active buffs.

Stack Training Bonuses Before Starting

Depending on availability, prepare:

Bonuses that change training speed should be active before starting a long queue whenever possible.

Is Upgrading T4 to T5 Good for MGE?

Upgrading T4 troops to T5 can generate points efficiently because you only spend the time and resources needed for the upgrade. However, the event awards the score difference between troop tiers, not the full T5 training score.

Do not train or upgrade T5 purely for MGE if doing so leaves you unable to heal during KvK. T5 troops have substantially more expensive resource requirements than lower tiers.

For the complete progression path, read the Tier 5 troop requirements guide.

Stage 2: Defeating Barbarians

Mightiest Governor Defeating Barbarians stage

The barbarian stage converts Action Points into MGE score. Your goal should be to maximize points per AP while also considering rewards, troop health, and time.

Use Peacekeeping Commanders

A normal barbarian attack starts at 50 AP before reductions. The Insight talent in the Peacekeeping tree can reduce the cost by up to 10 AP.

Consecutive barbarian attacks also reduce the displayed AP cost by 2 each time the same march continues without returning to the city, stacking up to a 10-AP reduction. Combining both effects can make long barbarian sessions substantially more efficient.

Useful accessible Peacekeeping commanders include Lohar and Boudica, although your strongest available PvE march may vary by account age.

Do Not Confuse Consecutive Attacks With Barbarian Chaining

Consecutive farming means manually attacking one barbarian after another and receiving the decreasing AP cost.

Barbarian chaining is different: an area-of-effect skill damages additional nearby barbarians, potentially allowing extra enemies to be defeated without paying a separate initial AP cost for each one.

Do Not Automatically Target the Highest Level

Higher-level barbarians generally score more, but a slightly lower-level cluster can produce better points per minute when it is much closer or dies substantially faster.

Also consider whether your AP bottles have a higher-value use in Marauders, KvK Honor, or another overlapping activity. MGE points should not be evaluated in isolation.

Stage 3: Gathering Resources

MGE Gathering Resources stage

The Gathering stage is one of the best opportunities for F2P players to score without consuming large quantities of speedups. The important mechanic is timing your resource return.

Preload Gathering Marches

  1. Check each march’s troop load.
  2. Select nodes that will not finish too early.
  3. Gather until your marches are close to full before the stage begins.
  4. Keep them outside the city until scoring is active.
  5. Return the marches after the stage opens.
  6. Immediately send them back to new resource points.

Do not simply send gatherers out several days early. If the march finishes and automatically returns before the event stage opens, the prepared resources will not contribute to that scoring window.

Should You Gather Gold or Gems?

Among Food, Wood, Stone, and Gold, Gold provides the highest standard MGE score per unit gathered. Gems award much more per unit, but gem nodes are smaller, less common, and require more active movement between deposits.

For low-maintenance scoring, Gold is therefore a practical default. Highly active players can mix in gem nodes when efficient deposits are available.

Best Gathering Setup

Use Gathering commanders, sufficient troop load, and gathering-speed bonuses. Tier 1 Siege units are popular because of their high load and low replacement cost, although they are not the fastest troop class for long marches.

For commander recommendations and gathering optimization, read the Rise of Kingdoms gathering guide.

Stage 4: Increasing Power

The Power Upgrade stage rewards eligible building, technology, and troop power. The standard scoring rate is 2 MGE points per eligible point of power gained.

The best upgrade is therefore not automatically a Gold Mine or whichever building provides the cheapest raw power. Prioritize upgrades your account genuinely needs.

Preload Useful Buildings and Research

Start a long building or technology upgrade before the stage and time its completion after scoring opens. If possible, prepare enough resources to begin another useful upgrade immediately afterward.

This lets normal account progression contribute to your MGE score instead of spending speedups on low-priority buildings solely for leaderboard points.

Compare Power per Speedup

Before accelerating an upgrade, consider:

  • Power gained
  • Hours of speedups required
  • Resource cost
  • Whether the upgrade advances City Hall, Academy, T5, or another goal
  • Overlapping event rewards
  • Your assigned MGE cap
  • The value of the next leaderboard bracket

Use Building, Research, and Training Speedups before Universal Speedups whenever practical because Universal Speedups remain useful for more situations.

Stage 5: Eliminating Enemies

Enemy Elimination is where MGE can become extremely expensive. Points rise with enemy troop tier, but every battle can also create healing costs, severely wounded troops, or permanent losses depending on the type of combat.

More importantly, most established kingdoms have rules governing MGE kill points.

Check the Rules Before Fighting

Look for:

  • Kingdom-wide MGE rules
  • Your assigned point cap
  • Approved dueling locations
  • Whether troop feeding is allowed
  • Whether farm attacks are prohibited
  • Whether gathering attacks are prohibited
  • Any active KvK war instructions

Prefer Combat That Also Helps the Kingdom

Depending on the situation, useful scoring opportunities can include:

  • Real KvK combat
  • Alliance-organized fighting
  • Approved duels
  • Authorized troop-feeding arrangements
  • Defending objectives during an active war

Attacking random farmers, allied gatherers, or inactive cities without authorization may generate points, but it can also violate kingdom rules and cause unnecessary diplomatic problems.

How Final Sprint Works

Final Sprint is the commonly used name for the last scoring push, when activities from earlier MGE phases can contribute again at reduced point rates.

This is where leaderboard mistakes become expensive. A player who spent every training speedup on Day 1 has fewer options than someone who deliberately saved a reserve.

Final Sprint Checklist

  • Check your exact overall rank.
  • Calculate the score gap to the next reward bracket.
  • Check your kingdom’s maximum score.
  • Keep a buffer below a fixed-MGE cap.
  • Use the cheapest available scoring method first.
  • Account for the reduced Final Sprint scoring rate.
  • Do not start long actions that will finish after the event ends.
  • Avoid consuming emergency KvK healing resources for a minor rank increase.
A successful Final Sprint is not necessarily the highest score you can produce. If the next ranking bracket costs weeks of speedups but only gives a small improvement in rewards, keeping those resources for KvK or the next valuable MGE can be the stronger account decision.

Mightiest Governor Rewards and Commander Selection

MGE rewards can include individual milestones, stage rewards, and the final overall leaderboard. High ranking positions are particularly desirable because MGE is an important source of sculptures for eligible Legendary commanders.

The available commander pool is not identical for every kingdom. Younger kingdoms have age-based commander availability, while later-season kingdoms can have broader selection mechanics. Always open the current MGE reward preview before deciding whether an event deserves a serious push.

Consider:

  • Whether the commander fits your main troop type
  • Whether the commander is still relevant in your kingdom’s season
  • How many sculptures you already own
  • Whether you can realistically reach the needed ranking
  • How much training, AP, and healing stockpile the attempt requires
  • Whether another commander acquisition event offers better value

Should F2P Players Push Mightiest Governor?

F2P governors can get strong value from MGE without attempting a top ranking every cycle. Personal milestones, Gathering, naturally required power upgrades, and efficient barbarian farming can all provide useful rewards while preserving your main stockpile.

A major ranking push makes more sense when:

  • The commander is important to your account.
  • Your kingdom permits an open push or assigns you a position.
  • You have enough speedups and resources to reach the expected score.
  • Your KvK preparation will remain healthy afterward.
  • You have a realistic chance of holding the desired ranking.

Skip or limit the push when the commander does not fit your roster, the competition is far beyond your stockpile, or an upcoming KvK gives your resources a more important use.

Players comparing a different starting point can also review Rise of Kingdoms accounts for sale by commander development, technology, troop tiers, equipment, speedups, and kingdom stage. A high MGE score alone is not a useful measure of overall account quality.

Common Mightiest Governor Mistakes

  • Ignoring a fixed-MGE assignment: Kingdom rules can matter more than your personal leaderboard target.
  • Spending before the correct phase: Always verify that your intended activity is currently scoring.
  • Assuming there are six official phases: MGE is traditionally counted as five core phases even though Final Sprint is often treated as a separate daily scoring window.
  • Forgetting upgrade score differences: Upgrading T4 to T5 does not award the same points as training a brand-new T5 troop.
  • Gathering only Gold without checking Gems: Gold is the strongest regular resource for points, while Gem gathering has a much higher standard point value per unit.
  • Returning preloaded gatherers too early: The resources need to enter the city during the appropriate scoring period.
  • Using AP inefficiently: Maintain consecutive barbarian attacks and use Peacekeeping talents where appropriate.
  • Completing useless upgrades for Power: Favor progression you already need.
  • Attacking farms without permission: A technically possible scoring method can still violate kingdom policy.
  • Panic-spending during Final Sprint: Calculate the cost per additional reward before committing.

FAQs

What are the Mightiest Governor event stages?

The five core MGE phases are Training Troops, Defeating Barbarians, Gathering Resources, Increasing Power, and Eliminating Enemies. Many current guides also separate the last mixed-scoring period as Final Sprint for practical planning.

Does MGE have five or six phases?

The traditional in-game answer is five phases. However, players often describe six daily scoring periods because Final Sprint is treated separately from the five core categories.

Which resource gives the most MGE gathering points?

Gems provide the highest standard score per unit gathered. Among the four normal resources, Gold scores highest, followed by Stone, while Food and Wood have the lowest point rate.

Do troop upgrades give full MGE training points?

No. When upgrading troops, MGE normally awards the point difference between the old and new troop tiers. This is important when calculating the score from a large T4-to-T5 upgrade.

What is a fixed MGE?

A fixed MGE is a kingdom-management policy where leadership assigns rankings, score caps, or eligible participants. It is not a separate built-in version of the event, so the exact rules differ between kingdoms.

Should F2P players try to win MGE?

Only when the featured commander is valuable to the account and the expected winning score is realistic. F2P players often gain more long-term value by completing efficient milestones and saving their largest stockpile for a particularly important MGE.

Conclusion

Winning the Rise of Kingdoms Mightiest Governor event requires more than a large speedup stockpile. Confirm your kingdom’s rules, plan each scoring stage in advance, preload training and gathering where useful, spend AP efficiently, and preserve enough resources for KvK. Most importantly, calculate the value of the next leaderboard position before chasing it. For more event, commander, resource, and progression strategies, explore our Rise of Kingdoms guides.
