Whiteout Survival crafting is different from the system found in traditional survival games. Players do not manually craft axes, clothing, weapons, food containers, or other tools for individual Survivors.
Instead, equipment progression is built around Chief Gear, Chief Charms, Hero Gear, Mastery Forging, and exclusive Hero Gear. Each system uses different materials and improves different combat statistics, so understanding where to invest can prevent valuable items from being wasted.
Does Whiteout Survival Have Crafting?
Whiteout Survival has a limited crafting system for Chief Gear, but it does not have an open crafting menu for producing survival tools and weapons.
Most equipment is obtained, enhanced, forged, or upgraded rather than created from basic materials. These systems become available gradually as the Furnace reaches specific levels.

1. Hero Gear
Hero Gear becomes available at Furnace Level 15. It is equipped on Heroes and provides bonuses based on the gear type, quality, level, and the Hero’s troop class.
Hero Gear can improve statistics such as:
- Hero Attack.
- Hero Defense.
- Hero Health.
- Hero Lethality.
- Troop-related Command bonuses.
Gear can normally be moved between Heroes of the same troop class. This allows you to concentrate your strongest equipment on the Heroes you currently use instead of developing a separate full set for every Hero.
How to Enhance Hero Gear
Hero Gear is enhanced by using:
- Enhancement XP Components.
- Lower-quality or spare Hero Gear.
- A combination of gear and XP materials.
Do not automatically consume every unused equipment piece. Keep enough suitable gear for your main Infantry, Lancer, and Marksman Heroes before using duplicates as enhancement material.
Which Hero Gear Should You Upgrade First?
Prioritize gear equipped by your main combat Heroes. These are usually the Heroes used for Arena, Exploration, rallies, city attacks, garrisons, and important alliance events.
A practical early approach is to:
- Equip your main Infantry, Lancer, and Marksman Heroes.
- Improve their gear to a similar level.
- Give additional investment to the pieces that improve the statistics most important to each role.
- Avoid heavily upgrading gear on Heroes you rarely use.
Infantry Heroes usually benefit from durability because they often support the frontline. Marksman Heroes commonly benefit from stronger damage statistics, while Lancer priorities can depend on the Hero and formation.
2. Mastery Forging and Essence Stones
Mastery Forging becomes available after reaching Furnace Level 20 and meeting the required Hero Gear conditions. It is a separate upgrade path for eligible high-quality Hero Gear.
Essence Stones are the main material used for Mastery Forging. This process improves the gear’s strength and the bonuses provided by that equipment piece.
Where to Obtain Essence Stones
Essence Stones may be available through activities and shops such as:
- Bear Hunt.
- Intel Missions.
- Growth Missions.
- Arena Shop.
- Foundry Shop.
- Mystery Shop.
- VIP Shop.
- Alliance Mobilization.
- Limited-time event rewards.
Available sources can change as the state develops and events rotate. Check the item description and current shops before spending currencies.
Do Not Spread Essence Stones Too Thinly
Essence Stones become expensive as forging levels increase. Concentrating them on equipment used by your primary Heroes usually provides more value than placing a small amount into every available piece.
Before spending a large quantity, confirm that:
- The gear is used by one of your main Heroes.
- The piece improves a statistic relevant to that Hero’s role.
- You are not about to replace it with a better-quality piece.
- An upcoming event does not reward Mastery Forging upgrades.
3. Chief Gear
Chief Gear becomes available at Furnace Level 22. Unlike Hero Gear, Chief Gear applies bonuses to your troop types rather than one individual Hero.
Each pair of Chief Gear pieces supports Infantry, Lancers, or Marksmen. Upgrading these pieces increases troop Attack and Defense.
Chief Gear Materials
The main Chief Gear materials are:
- Hardened Alloy: Used throughout Chief Gear development.
- Polishing Solution: Required alongside Hardened Alloy.
- Design Plans: Needed at more advanced Chief Gear stages.
- Lunar Amber: Used for later high-level upgrades.
Common sources include Polar Terror rallies, higher-level Beasts, Crazy Joe, Frostfire Mine, Alliance Championship rewards, event shops, and material chests. Exact sources depend on the item and your state’s available content.
Balance Chief Gear for Set Bonuses
Chief Gear provides additional bonuses when three or six pieces reach the same quality. Three matching pieces can improve troop Defense, while a complete six-piece set can improve troop Attack.
Because of these set bonuses, upgrading every piece gradually can sometimes provide more value than pushing one item far ahead of the others.
However, your best priority also depends on your role:
- Rally leaders: May prioritize the troop statistics most important to their main attacking formation.
- Garrison players: May place more value on durability and defensive balance.
- Rally joiners: Still benefit from stronger troops but may prefer a balanced approach.
- Developing players: Usually gain reliable value by keeping gear quality reasonably even.
4. Chief Charms
Chief Charms unlock at Furnace Level 25. Charms are attached to Chief Gear and provide troop Health and Lethality bonuses.
Chief Gear and Chief Charms improve different statistics:
- Chief Gear: Primarily supports troop Attack and Defense.
- Chief Charms: Primarily supports troop Health and Lethality.
Chief Charm Materials
Charm upgrades use materials such as:
- Charm Guides.
- Charm Designs.
- Charm Secrets at higher levels.
These materials may be obtained from Castle battles, Frostfire Mine, Intel Missions, Foundry Shop, State of Power shops, Canyon Shop, event rewards, and other rotating sources.
How to Upgrade Chief Charms Efficiently
Charm material requirements increase significantly at higher levels. Avoid upgrading one Charm without considering the rest of your equipment.
A balanced set can improve all three troop classes, while focused upgrades may be appropriate for players who specialize in a specific rally or defensive role.
Save Charm materials when an upcoming event awards points for using them. This allows the same upgrade to improve your account and contribute to event rewards.
5. Exclusive Hero Gear and Widgets
Eligible Mythic Heroes have exclusive Hero Gear that belongs only to that Hero. It cannot be transferred to another Hero.
Exclusive gear provides additional Hero and troop bonuses. It can also unlock or strengthen exclusive skills as its level increases.
Widgets are used to upgrade this exclusive equipment. Each Widget belongs to a particular Hero, Hero generation, or selectable Widget chest.
Do Not Open Widget Chests Without a Plan
Widget materials are limited, especially for players who do not regularly purchase packs. Before selecting a Widget, confirm:
- The Hero is part of your long-term lineup.
- You have enough shards to develop the Hero.
- The Widget bonus applies to your intended role.
- A newer Hero generation will not replace the Hero immediately.
- The chest cannot provide a more useful Widget later.
A powerful Widget on a poorly developed Hero may provide less value than improving a Hero you already use in rallies, garrisons, Arena, or Exploration.
Where to Obtain Gear Upgrade Materials
No single activity provides every equipment material. Consistent participation across several systems is usually required.

| Activity or source | Possible equipment rewards |
|---|---|
| Exploration and idle rewards | Hero Gear and related progression materials |
| Arena and Arena Shop | Hero Gear, XP materials, and Essence Stones |

| Polar Terror and Beast hunting | Hardened Alloy and other development rewards |
| Frostfire Mine | Chief Gear and Chief Charm materials |
| Foundry and Canyon shops | Essence Stones, Charm materials, and other equipment items |
| Hall of Heroes and rotating events | Hero Widgets and generation-specific materials |
Reward tables and shop inventories may change. Check the current in-game description before spending event currencies.
Common Equipment Upgrade Mistakes
Looking for a Workshop or Crafting Table
Whiteout Survival does not use a general Workshop for crafting axes, weapons, clothing, food containers, or shelter parts. Equipment is managed through the Hero, Chief Gear, and Chief Charm interfaces.
Expecting Equipment Durability
Hero Gear, Chief Gear, and Charms do not require routine repairs after use. Equipment does not break because a Hero participates in combat.
Upgrading Every Hero Equally
Spreading Hero Gear and enhancement materials across every unlocked Hero can weaken your main formation. Equip and develop the Heroes you use most often first.
Using Valuable Gear as Enhancement Material
Review each item before consuming it. A spare piece may be useful for another Hero of the same troop class or for a later equipment upgrade.
Opening Every Selectable Widget Chest
Keep selectable chests unopened until you know which Hero will remain in your main lineup. Widget choices can be difficult to reverse.
Ignoring Event Timing
Many development events provide points for improving Chief Gear, Charms, Hero Gear, or Widgets. Using large material reserves outside those events may reduce the total rewards earned from the same upgrade.
Focusing Only on Displayed Power
Power is useful as a general progression indicator, but the statistics provided by an upgrade matter more in combat. Review whether an item improves Infantry durability, Marksman damage, rally bonuses, garrison bonuses, or another relevant area.

Use Gear Materials According to Your Main Formation
Whiteout Survival crafting is mainly connected to Chief Gear, while the other equipment systems focus on enhancement, forging, and Hero-specific upgrades. Progress comes from collecting the correct materials and investing them in equipment that supports your main Heroes and troop formation.
Prioritize Hero Gear for the Heroes you use regularly, keep Chief Gear reasonably balanced, plan Charm upgrades around your combat role, and avoid opening Widget chests until you have selected a long-term Hero.
Players comparing developed profiles can review each Whiteout Survival account based on its Chief Gear, Chief Charms, Hero Gear, Widgets, Hero generation, troops, research, state, and transfer eligibility. Review the complete listing information and the game’s current account rules before making a decision.
