Saladin ROK Guide: Best Talent Tree and 5551 Build

Saladin ROK Cavalry commander talent tree and build

Saladin is a Legendary Cavalry commander in Rise of Kingdoms whose main strengths are anti-healing, March Speed reduction, skill-damage resistance, and counterattack-damage resistance. He remains efficient at 5-5-5-1 during KvK 2 and KvK 3, although players beginning from 1-1-1-1 in a mature Season of Conquest kingdom should normally prioritize newer Cavalry commanders.

His most practical role is leading or supporting a durable full-Cavalry open-field march. Saladin can also attack player cities, but his fourth skill does not apply to every rally target, Flag, Fortress, Pass, or open-field enemy.

  • KvK 2 Cavalry player: Saladin at 5-5-5-1 remains useful.
  • KvK 3 player: A strong legacy option when he completes a full march.
  • F2P player: Consider 5-5-5-1 only when the pairing and equipment are ready.
  • Existing 5-5-5-1 owner: Keep using him where his durability and anti-healing matter.
  • Existing expertised owner: Continue using him as a legacy field or Canyon commander.
  • Season of Conquest player starting from 1-1-1-1: Usually skip.

Is Saladin Still Good in Rise of Kingdoms?

Saladin is no longer a leading modern Cavalry investment, but he remains highly efficient for earlier kingdom seasons. His first three skills provide nearly all of his general open-field utility, which makes 5-5-5-1 one of the most economical legacy Legendary builds.

His active skill is particularly useful against healing-focused commanders. However, the healing reduction affects healing received by the target. It does not remove shields, troop-capacity bonuses, damage reduction, or every other form of sustain.

Player Situation Recommendation Reason
Before KvK 2 Plan carefully Confirm his acquisition route and the rest of the Cavalry roster first
KvK 2 Cavalry player Consider 5-5-5-1 Strong durability, anti-healing, and movement control
KvK 3 Cavalry player Useful legacy option Still effective with William I, Genghis Khan, or a budget secondary
Existing 5-5-5-1 owner Keep The costly city-specific fourth skill remains at level one
Existing 5-5-5-5 owner Use selectively Expertise improves Hold Fast in every combat mode
Mature Season of Conquest account Do not start from 1-1-1-1 Newer Cavalry commanders provide better long-term returns

How to Get Saladin

Saladin has appeared through earlier-season commander rotations, but published databases do not consistently list the same acquisition method. Depending on the kingdom phase and current event systems, he may appear through Mightiest Governor, Wheel-related rotations, or later acquisition features.

Before planning gems, speedups, or sculptures:

  • Check the current commander displayed in the event interface.
  • Confirm whether Saladin is available in the kingdom’s current season.
  • Review any kingdom rules for Mightiest Governor rankings.
  • Calculate whether 5-5-5-1 is achievable without delaying a complete modern march.
  • Do not rely on an old fixed kingdom-day schedule.

Best Saladin Skill Order

Saladin’s traditional value build is 5-5-5-1. This maximizes his active skill, Cavalry statistics, and damage reduction while limiting investment in Generosity, which applies only when attacking player city garrisons.

Recommended Progression

  1. Keep Saladin at one star until Hold Fast reaches level five.
  2. Raise him to two stars and maximize Ghulams.
  3. Raise him to three stars and maximize Bond of Fate.
  4. Unlock Generosity only after reaching 5-5-5.
  5. Stop at 5-5-5-1 unless expertise clearly benefits an existing main march.
Skill Build Assessment Practical Use
5-1-1-1 Incomplete Maximum active skill without Cavalry durability
5-5-1-1 Temporary Adds maximum Cavalry Attack, Defense, and March Speed
5-5-5-1 Best value Complete general open-field package
5-5-5-5 Roster-dependent Stronger Hold Fast and maximum city-garrison damage

Saladin Skills Explained

Hold Fast

Rage requirement: 1,000

Hold Fast deals direct damage to one target. At level five, it has a damage factor of 1,400, reduces the target’s March Speed by 30%, and reduces healing received by 40% for five seconds.

This is effective against healing-focused marches and fleeing targets. However, it does not prevent shields or reduce every defensive effect.

Ghulams

Ghulams provides the following maximum bonuses to Cavalry units:

  • 20% Cavalry Attack
  • 20% Cavalry Defense
  • 5% Cavalry March Speed

Therefore, a Saladin-led march should contain only Cavalry. Mixed troops lose part of his commander kit and weaken the Cavalry talent route.

Bond of Fate

At maximum level, Saladin’s march takes 30% less skill damage and 20% less counterattack damage.

Bond of Fate does not reduce all incoming damage. Normal attacks, additional damage, smite, combo attacks, and other damage categories may follow separate rules.

Generosity

Generosity increases damage dealt to player city garrisons by up to 15%. However, Saladin’s march cannot plunder resources from those cities.

This effect does not automatically apply to:

  • Alliance Flags
  • Alliance Fortresses
  • Passes
  • Open-field marches
  • Barbarian Forts
  • Every Ark of Osiris structure

As a result, Generosity is the least important skill for general field use.

Praise the Creator

Expertise upgrades Hold Fast to a 1,700 damage factor. It also increases the March Speed reduction to 50% and the healing reduction to 50% for five seconds.

This is a meaningful improvement in open field, not only in city rallies. Nevertheless, the account must invest through the city-specialized fourth skill to unlock it.

Best Saladin Talent Tree

Image replacement required: Do not reuse the old Saladin talent screenshot. It displays an impossible Archer build.

Talent route last reviewed: August 2026.

Open-Field Talent Route

  1. Begin in Support and unlock Rejuvenate. It restores Rage after either commander uses an active skill, improving Hold Fast’s cycle.
  2. Move into Cavalry and take Charge, Galea, and the available March Speed talents.
  3. Continue toward Emblazoned Shield. This improves protection against active-skill damage.
  4. Build through Halberd and Dragon Saber. These support full-Cavalry combat.
  5. Continue toward Disarm. This adds another defensive trigger during sustained fighting.
  6. Return to Support for Emergency Protection. Use the remaining points for survivability rather than city-specific Conquering effects.

This route is intended for open-field combat. Do not spend heavily in Conquering when Saladin is not attacking a city.

City-Rally Build

A specialized city-rally build can retain Rejuvenate, then invest in Conquering talents that explicitly improve attacks against cities or garrisons. Finish with relevant Cavalry durability and damage talents.

This build should be treated as a legacy option for an already developed Saladin. It is not recommended for Flags, open field, or a new Season of Conquest rally project.

Primary commander rule: Saladin’s talent tree applies only when he leads. If another commander is primary, Saladin contributes his unlocked skills but none of his Cavalry, Conquering, or Support talents.

Best Saladin Pairings

Pairing Primary Best Stage Main Strength Main Limitation
Saladin and William I Saladin KvK 2, KvK 3, and legacy use Durability, AOE, and group utility Surpassed by modern Cavalry pairings
Genghis Khan and Saladin Genghis Khan KvK 2 Single-target burst with improved durability Limited AOE and vulnerable to swarms
Saladin and Takeda Saladin Legacy field march High sustained durability Low damage by modern standards
Saladin and Cao Cao Saladin Early or budget use Mobility, healing, and Rage support Weak mature-account statistics
Saladin and Baibars Saladin Budget field or Canyon AOE damage and additional slowing Epic secondary with limited scaling
Saladin and Pelagius Saladin Temporary early march Accessible healing and Rage Not a competitive long-term pairing

Genghis Khan and Saladin

Genghis Khan and Saladin KvK 2 Cavalry pairing

Genghis Khan supplies burst damage, while Saladin adds anti-healing and defensive effects. Use Genghis Khan as primary when his skill-focused talent route provides more damage.

Saladin and Cao Cao

Saladin and Cao Cao budget Cavalry pairing

Cao Cao adds mobility, healing, Rage, and additional Cavalry Attack. This remains accessible for developing accounts, but it should not be presented as a modern top pairing.

Saladin and Pelagius

Saladin and Pelagius temporary Cavalry pairing

Pelagius is a temporary secondary for players without a completed Legendary partner. Replace him once William I, Genghis Khan, or another suitable Cavalry commander is developed.

Best Troops, Equipment and Formation

Use Full Cavalry

Saladin should normally lead full Cavalry. Ghulams applies only to Cavalry, while the recommended field build also invests heavily in the Cavalry tree.

Equipment Priorities

  1. Cavalry Health
  2. Cavalry Defense
  3. Cavalry Attack
  4. March Speed
  5. Skill-damage resistance or general damage reduction

Saladin already gains 20% Attack and Defense from Ghulams. Therefore, balanced Health and Defense generally improve his trades more reliably than stacking only Attack.

Formation

Wedge is a practical starting formation for pairings that depend on active-skill damage. However, the best choice also depends on the secondary commander, armament attributes, inscriptions, and intended activity.

A formation with stronger Cavalry Health, Defense, and relevant inscriptions can outperform a theoretically preferred formation with weak armaments.

How to Use Saladin in Open Field

  1. Target healing-focused marches. Hold Fast reduces healing received for five seconds.
  2. Use the March Speed reduction to control targets. It can help allied marches catch or disengage from an enemy.
  3. Stay near allied Cavalry marches. Saladin is durable, but isolation still leads to poor trades.
  4. Prioritize skill-damage enemies. Bond of Fate improves his resistance against their main damage source.
  5. Avoid prolonged swarms. Skill and counterattack reduction do not protect him from every damage category.
  6. Retreat before becoming trapped. Use Cavalry mobility rather than treating Saladin as an immovable tank.

Where Saladin Performs Best

  • KvK 2 open-field combat
  • KvK 3 open-field combat
  • Existing 5-5-5-1 Cavalry rosters
  • Sunset Canyon
  • Legacy city-rally setups
  • Backup Cavalry marches
  • Fights against healing and skill-damage commanders

Where Saladin Performs Poorly

  • New Season of Conquest investment
  • Garrison defense
  • Mixed-troop marches
  • Normal Barbarian farming
  • Modern top-tier rally leadership
  • Accounts without Cavalry equipment
  • Objectives that do not activate Generosity

Common Saladin Mistakes

  • Using an Archer talent tree: Saladin does not have the Archer tree.
  • Assuming Generosity applies to every rally: It specifies player city garrisons.
  • Expertising him automatically: A 5-5-5-1 build captures most general field value.
  • Starting him from 1-1-1-1 in a mature kingdom: Newer Cavalry commanders offer stronger returns.
  • Using mixed troops: This wastes Ghulams and Cavalry talents.
  • Treating Bond of Fate as all-damage reduction: It reduces skill and counterattack damage only.
  • Presenting Genghis Khan or Cao Cao as modern universal pairings: They are early or legacy options.
  • Expecting Saladin’s talents when he is secondary: Only the primary commander’s tree applies.
  • Targeting LANCER build queries: Those searches relate to a different tabletop game.
  • Stacking only Attack equipment: Health and Defense improve sustained efficiency.

FAQ

Is Saladin still good in ROK?

Yes. Saladin remains efficient during KvK 2 and KvK 3, especially at 5-5-5-1. He is usually not worth starting from 1-1-1-1 in a mature Season of Conquest kingdom.

What is the best Saladin talent tree?

For open field, begin in Support for Rejuvenate, then invest through Cavalry for mobility, durability, Disarm, and full-Cavalry combat value.

Is Saladin good at 5-5-5-1?

Yes. It is his best-value build because it maximizes Hold Fast, Ghulams, and Bond of Fate while leaving the city-specific fourth skill at level one.

Should Saladin be expertised?

Expertise is worthwhile mainly for an existing developed account that still uses him frequently. It improves Hold Fast to a 1,700 damage factor with 50% slowing and healing reduction.

Who is the best pairing for Saladin?

William I is a balanced legacy partner. Genghis Khan provides early burst, Takeda adds durability, while Cao Cao, Baibars, and Pelagius are budget alternatives.

Should Saladin be primary or secondary?

Use Saladin as primary when his Cavalry and Support talents are needed. Use him as secondary when Genghis Khan or another commander has the stronger primary talent route.

How do you get Saladin in ROK?

His availability depends on the kingdom’s current commander rotations and acquisition systems. Check the live event and commander interface before planning resources.

Does Saladin’s fourth skill work against Flags?

No. Generosity specifies player city garrisons. It should not be counted as a damage bonus against Flags, Fortresses, Passes, or open-field marches.

Comparing established Cavalry rosters? Saladin remains useful for accounts that already have him at 5-5-5-1, suitable Cavalry equipment, and a compatible earlier-season pairing. Players comparing ROK accounts for sale should also review commander skills, Cavalry technology, equipment, formations, resources, migration eligibility, and kingdom status.

Conclusion

Saladin remains one of the most efficient legacy Cavalry commanders for KvK 2 and KvK 3. His active anti-healing effect, Cavalry statistics, skill-damage resistance, and counterattack reduction create a durable field march without requiring expertise.

For most players, 5-5-5-1 is the correct stopping point. Expertise improves Hold Fast substantially, but the account must invest through Generosity, a specialized city-garrison skill, to unlock it.

Use full Cavalry and a verified Cavalry and Support talent route when Saladin leads. Additionally, select pairings according to kingdom age rather than treating older combinations as current universal recommendations.

Most importantly, remove the existing Archer talent build before republishing. It cannot be created with Saladin’s actual talent trees.
