Cheok Jun-gyeong ROK Infantry commander guide

Cheok Jun-gyeong, sometimes searched as Cheok Jungyeong, is a Legendary Infantry commander in Rise of Kingdoms. His reworked kit focuses on smite damage, normal damage, debuff cleansing, Infantry mobility and protection against skill, smite and combo damage.

The rework gives Cheok a clearer open-field role, but it does not make him a universal modern investment. Players who already have him developed can test his new mechanics, while most mature accounts starting from 1-1-1-1 should prioritize a newer Infantry commander.

  • New player: Skip.
  • F2P player starting from 1-1-1-1: Skip.
  • Existing developed owner: Test him after the rework.
  • Existing expertised owner: Use him as a backup open-field option.
  • Player needing debuff cleansing: Born to Die gives him a useful niche.
  • Modern rally or garrison captain: Use a current specialist.

Is Cheok Jun-gyeong Still Good in ROK?

Cheok is now a situational open-field commander rather than a top rally or garrison investment. His strongest benefits are pure-Infantry statistics, multi-target smite damage, debuff cleansing and occasional mitigation against three major damage categories.

However, his defensive trigger has a ten-second cooldown, he has no healing, and his overall output remains below the strongest modern Infantry marches. Therefore, his value depends heavily on existing skill levels and available partners.

Player Situation Recommendation Reason
New player Skip Cheok is not an accessible beginner commander
F2P with limited sculptures Skip from 1-1-1-1 Modern Infantry commanders provide better long-term value
Existing partial Cheok Evaluate carefully The value depends on whether Born to Die is developed
Existing expertised Cheok Use as backup The rework adds smite AOE and debuff cleansing
Infantry specialist with complete meta marches Low priority Cheok may weaken a stronger modern pairing
Rally or garrison captain Use a specialist Cheok’s current kit is mainly designed for field combat

Players starting from low skill levels should compare Cheok with current options in the updated Rise of Kingdoms commander tier list before spending Universal Legendary Sculptures.

Cheok Jun-gyeong Quick Overview

Attribute Cheok Jun-gyeong
Rarity Legendary
Nickname Minister Protector
Origin Korea
Talent trees Infantry, Versatility and Smite
Recommended troops Full Infantry
Main role Backup open-field Infantry commander
Main strengths Smite AOE, normal damage, cleansing and damage mitigation
Main weaknesses No healing, long defensive cooldown and low modern priority
Acquisition Season 2 Wheel of Fortune reward rotation

What Changed in Cheok Jun-gyeong’s Rework?

Old Mechanic Current Mechanic
Attack talent tree Replaced by the Smite talent tree
Single-target Courageous damage Smite damage against up to three targets
Cavalry bonus and Archer drawback Infantry Attack and March Speed
Skill-damage stack mechanic Normal damage and debuff cleansing
Stack-based expertise damage Fixed smite AOE when the mitigation trigger activates

The old pairing logic built around stacking skill damage is no longer valid. In particular, Guan Yu should not be recommended simply because the removed Sacrifice skill increased skill damage.

How to Get Cheok Jun-gyeong

Cheok was added to the Season 2 Wheel of Fortune reward list. Exact rotations can still vary, so check the live Wheel before planning gems or sculptures.

Before investing:

  • Confirm that Cheok is the current Wheel commander.
  • Review how many sculptures are required for the intended build.
  • Check whether the account already has strong Infantry equipment.
  • Compare Cheok with the other Season 2 and later Infantry options.
  • Avoid unlocking him without a clear plan for Born to Die or expertise.

Best Cheok Jun-gyeong Skill Order

Courageous should reach level five before additional skills are unlocked. Afterward, Born to Die is the most important reworked passive because it provides both normal damage and reliable debuff cleansing.

Recommended Priority

  1. Maximize Courageous first.
  2. Prioritize Born to Die for its pure-Infantry damage and cleansing.
  3. Develop Byeolmuban for Infantry Attack and March Speed.
  4. Improve Stalwart when continuing toward expertise.
  5. Expertise Cheok only when he has a defined place in the roster.

A 5-1-1-5 configuration is sometimes discussed as an efficient target. However, the fourth skill cannot always be upgraded directly after all four skills are unlocked. Skill locks or skill-reset items may be required, so do not present 5-1-1-5 as guaranteed.

Skill Build Assessment
5-1-1-1 Maximum active skill but missing his main rework benefit
5-1-1-5 Efficient theoretical breakpoint if achieved safely
5-5-1-5 Stronger pure-Infantry field build
5-5-5-5 Complete reworked kit for an existing committed owner

Cheok Jun-gyeong Skills Explained

Courageous

Rage requirement: 1,000

Courageous deals smite damage with a factor of 1,500 to as many as three enemies in a fan-shaped area. Damage to every target is reduced by 15% for each additional target.

When a target has fewer than 30% of its units remaining, it is also silenced for one second. This makes Courageous more useful when finishing weakened marches inside a grouped battle.

Byeolmuban

When Cheok’s march contains only Infantry, it gains:

  • 40% Infantry Attack
  • 15% March Speed

The previous Cavalry damage bonus and Archer damage drawback are no longer part of the current skill. Use full Infantry to activate the new bonuses.

Stalwart

While Cheok is on the map, receiving skill, smite or combo damage gives his march a 50% chance to reduce that instance of damage by 50%.

The effect has a ten-second cooldown. Therefore, it can block one major hit but does not provide constant 50% damage reduction.

Born to Die

Born to Die replaced the old Sacrifice skill. When Cheok’s march contains only Infantry:

  • It deals 15% more normal damage.
  • Basic attacks against field troops cleanse one debuff.
  • If the debuff has several stacks, one stack is removed.
  • The cleansing effect has a three-second cooldown.

This gives Cheok a useful role in fights involving Attack reduction, Defense reduction, March Speed reduction and other removable negative effects.

Vow to the Death

Vow to the Death enhances Stalwart. When the trigger activates, Cheok:

  • Reduces the incoming skill, smite or combo damage by 50%.
  • Deals smite damage with a factor of 500.
  • Hits up to three enemies in a fan-shaped area.
  • Deals 15% less damage per additional target.

The trigger retains the ten-second cooldown. Expertise improves his counter-pressure but does not turn him into a constant damage-reduction commander.

Best Cheok Jun-gyeong Talent Tree

Talent image replacement required: Do not reuse the old Cheok talent screenshot. His Attack tree was replaced by the Smite tree.

A current open-field direction uses most points in Smite and the remainder in Infantry, with no meaningful investment in Versatility.

Recommended Talent Direction

  1. Begin in Smite and take the core talents that improve smite damage and its supporting combat cycle.
  2. Prioritize Infantry Health and Defense before stacking additional Attack.
  3. Add Infantry March Speed to improve positioning and disengagement.
  4. Reach the strongest full-Infantry endpoint available in the current panel.
  5. Use remaining points on normal-damage or smite talents that complement Born to Die and Courageous.
  6. Skip Versatility unless a specific current-client talent provides measurable value to the selected build.

Primary commander rule: Cheok’s talent tree applies only when he leads. When he is secondary, his skills still work, but none of his Infantry, Smite or Versatility talents affect the march.

Best Cheok Jun-gyeong Pairings

Pairing Primary Best Use Main Limitation Status
Alexander and Cheok Alexander or Cheok Legacy field combat Lower damage than modern pairings Legacy
Guan Yu and Cheok Guan Yu Legacy field combat The original skill-stacking synergy was removed Retest
Sun Tzu and Cheok Sun Tzu Temporary KvK 2 march Poor long-term investment efficiency Budget
Modern Infantry and Cheok Modern commander Backup field march Cheok may weaken a stronger meta pairing Situational

Alexander and Cheok Jun-gyeong

Alexander the Great and Cheok Jun-gyeong pairing

Alexander adds shields and sustained durability, while Cheok contributes smite damage and cleansing. This is mainly relevant to accounts that already developed both commanders.

Guan Yu and Cheok Jun-gyeong

Guan Yu and Cheok Jun-gyeong legacy pairing

Guan Yu should lead because his active skill benefits from the primary position. However, the old recommendation was based on Cheok’s removed skill-damage stacks, so this pairing should be retested under the current kit.

Sun Tzu and Cheok Jun-gyeong

Sun Tzu and Cheok Jun-gyeong budget pairing

Sun Tzu provides Rage and AOE damage. This is an accessible temporary setup for an existing Cheok owner, but it is not a reason for a beginner to invest heavily in Cheok.

Best Troops, Equipment and Formation

Use Full Infantry

Byeolmuban and Born to Die require a march containing only Infantry. Mixed troops lose the Attack, March Speed, normal-damage and cleansing benefits.

Equipment Priorities

  1. Infantry Health
  2. Infantry Defense
  3. Damage reduction
  4. Infantry Attack
  5. March Speed
  6. Smite or normal-damage attributes

Cheok already gains 40% Infantry Attack from Byeolmuban. Therefore, Health and Defense usually improve sustained field trades more effectively than stacking only Attack.

Formation

Pincer is a practical starting formation for Cheok’s current smite-oriented build. However, the final choice should account for the primary commander, secondary commander, armament attributes and inscriptions.

Formation last reviewed: August 2026.

Where Cheok Still Works

  • Existing developed Infantry accounts
  • Backup open-field marches
  • Situations where debuff cleansing has value
  • KvK 2 testing after the rework
  • Selected Canyon or limited-event lineups
  • Accounts that already expertised him

Where Cheok Performs Poorly

  • First Legendary investment
  • Beginner progression
  • Modern rally leadership
  • Garrison defense
  • Mixed-troop marches
  • Accounts without Infantry equipment
  • Mature accounts starting him from 1-1-1-1

Common Cheok Jun-gyeong Mistakes

  • Using the old Sacrifice mechanic: The stacking skill-damage effect was removed.
  • Calling Born to Die a skill-damage buff: It increases normal damage and cleanses debuffs.
  • Using mixed troops: Two current skills require full Infantry.
  • Recommending Cheok to beginners: He is a Season 2 Legendary investment.
  • Calling him a modern top rally commander: His current role is primarily open field.
  • Pairing him with Guan Yu for the removed stack effect: That synergy no longer exists.
  • Using the old Attack talent image: Cheok now has the Smite tree.
  • Expecting his talents as secondary: Only the primary commander’s talents apply.
  • Countering him with Archers based on old text: The Archer drawback was removed.
  • Investing without checking current skill levels: The remaining sculpture cost may exceed his roster value.

FAQ

Is Cheok Jun-gyeong still good in ROK?

Cheok is usable as a reworked backup Infantry commander, especially for existing owners. He is not a high-priority new investment for mature accounts.

What changed in Cheok Jun-gyeong’s rework?

His Attack tree became Smite, Courageous became a multi-target smite skill, Born to Die replaced Sacrifice, and his expertise now deals fixed smite AOE.

What is the best Cheok talent tree?

Use a Smite and Infantry build for open field. Prioritize smite support, Infantry Health, Defense and March Speed, while generally skipping Versatility.

What does Born to Die do?

With full Infantry, it increases normal damage by 15% and cleanses one debuff or one debuff stack every three seconds during field combat.

Should Cheok use only Infantry?

Yes. Byeolmuban and Born to Die require a march containing only Infantry.

Who should pair with Cheok Jun-gyeong?

Alexander remains a legacy durability option, Guan Yu requires retesting, Sun Tzu is a temporary budget partner, and modern Infantry pairings should be evaluated for opportunity cost.

Is Cheok good for rallies?

He should not be treated as a modern top rally commander. His reworked skills are more clearly suited to open-field combat.

How do you unlock Cheok Jun-gyeong?

Cheok appears in the Season 2 Wheel of Fortune reward rotation. Check the live Wheel because exact commander rotations can vary.

Comparing developed Infantry rosters? Cheok is now most relevant to accounts that already have his skills, equipment and compatible marches developed. Players comparing ROK accounts for sale should also review Infantry technology, commander skills, equipment, formations, resources, migration eligibility and kingdom status.

Conclusion

Cheok Jun-gyeong’s rework replaces his outdated skill-damage stacking identity with smite damage, normal damage and debuff cleansing. This gives existing owners a more practical open-field niche.

Born to Die is the most important change because it removes one debuff or stack every three seconds while increasing normal damage. His expertise also adds multi-target smite damage when Stalwart activates.

Use full Infantry, replace the outdated Attack talent image, and build through the current Smite and Infantry trees. Most importantly, do not retain any advice based on Sacrifice stacks or the old Archer weakness.
